Relationships to the land drive state of health

[Brady:]
We’ve gone through a period of loss of, sort of, the stewardship or our own “‘aina,” our own land. And so the concepts that we had of health back two or three hundred years ago are not the concepts we necessarily have at this time. It’s more of an amalgamation of our cultures. Some understanding from the heritage, perhaps, of our Caucasian culture, or our Chinese culture, or our Japanese culture, plus the Hawaiian concept of health, which is “ola, ke ola” healthy life. So we look at people that hopefully have a life that’s centered. It’s a very spiritual life in Hawaiian culture. The relationship with family and “‘aina,” the land, is very important as well as the relationship with “ke akua” with God, and those relationships drive the state of our health.
