Lack of good parental modeling contributes to disconnection form culture and sense of wellness


[Kelliher:]
If you take individuals out of their culture where there’s a traditional role that the parents are playing to educate their children, or their nieces and nephews, that what you’re taking children away from is that modeling of good parenting. That’s sometimes what we see today for people who have suffered that historical trauma—is a lack of those good skills in parenting and a lack of that knowledge of a feeling of abandonment and isolation without that connection to culture and maybe a greater sense of wellness and that feeling of being completely whole.
