An elder who has earned respect through a long marriage and a life well-lived in his community

[Lindberg:]
Can I break in and ask about the lovely robe you have on? The meaning of it.
[Cook:]
Yes, this is a chief robe. I’m something of a chief.
[Lindberg:]
I’ll bet you’re a good one.
[Cook:]
In the community I live in— not by the name of a chief but a leader, a respected man, a point person. It comes with 38 years of marriage at the same place with the same woman and family and so forth, so it’s something that I’ve earned, that they put on me at this age.
[Lindberg:]
