Reflections on hospice being a return to the tradition of caring for dying relatives at home

[Bird:]
I know that when my father passed away, he was at the hospital in Santa Fe, and when it got to the point where there was really not much they could do for him, we took him home.
[Lindberg:]
Well, so hospice really is a return to that—the tradition is that people take care of their family at home. I mean it’s not a radical new idea. It’s returning—
[Bird:]
Yeah, it’s just going back to what once was.
[Lindberg:]
It’s just that in modern times if you’ve got everybody working to keep up their four cars, there isn’t anyone to take care of anyone.
[Bird:]
Well, which kind of, sort of begs the question— what do we value, our relatives or our cars?
