Makahiki is the Hawaiian period of thanksgiving

One of our gods is Lono, and he is a god of peace, and we’re just ending that period what we call in America Thanksgiving— what we call it in Hawaiian is “makahiki,” and we love “makahiki” because there would be no war and about four months of celebration and athleticism and intellectual sparring in “hula,” in poetry, in music, and also in physical abilities as well.
