Indian communities in New Mexico convey a sense of place and community

[Bird:]
The number of people who go to New Mexico sort of starting a second life after divorce, after losing their job, after certain sort of things, tend to look for something that was missing in their lives, and you see since the late ‘60s and even to this day you see people gravitating towards New Mexico, and they see Indian communities or Indian people having something that they’ve lost or lack, and I think one of the things is a sense of place, because for Pueblo people in New Mexico, many of the tribes there they’ve been there forever.
[Lindberg:]
Yeah, they stayed, right.
[Bird:]
So there’s a sense of place. I think there’s a sense of community, a sense of family, and sort of a sense of permanence.
