Kalaupapa has taught many lessons including Hawaiian lessons of family love and sacrifice

[Lindberg:]
We couldn’t leave Hawai‘i without seeing this settlement. Although it isn’t an entirely wonderful story, it maybe has a wonderful outcome. What’s the result now after all of these years of essentially hardships?
[Brady:]
I think that perseverance is a very important part of it; redress for the patients that are here is a very important part of it; the lessons that history has taught us from here. The Hawaiian lessons would be those of family love and sacrifice, the lessons of cultural sensitivity versus a failed federal investigation station where we learned some very powerful lessons about how things may not work out so well.
