Family members often recognize PTSD in returning veterans and will ask for help


[Lindberg:]
And the tribe is rather proud of those that go into the military aren't they?
[Parkerson:]
Uh-huh, they really honor veterans.
[Lindberg:]
Yes, so have any come back with a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, that kind of problem?
[Parkerson:]
I think post-traumatic.
[Lindberg:]
But the first trick is to recognize the existence of the post-traumatic stress disorder, isn’t it?
[Parkerson:]
Uh-huh.
[Lindberg:]
So how do you facilitate that getting done? I mean the earlier the better from what I’ve heard.
[Parkerson:]
Well, because I was in that field, I used to just notice this individual that wasn’t—
[Lindberg:]
I see, you had observed it.
[Parkerson:]
It was through observation and maybe family members would recognize that he or she is not right since they came back, and then they would ask for help.
