The IHS scholarship program encourages pursuit of careers in the medical field.

[Robideaux:]
I was an IHS scholarship recipient for my school when I went through school, college and medical school, and so I think I'm actually the first IHS director who was an IHS scholarship recipient.
[Lindberg:]
That's wonderful.
[Robideaux:]
Yeah, so the program works.
[Lindberg:]
Program works, yeah.
[Robideaux:]
We also fund some Indians Into Medicine Programs and Indians Into Psychology Programs to increase the numbers of students, and then once students get out of school, we have a loaner payment program, so if they have loans, and especially because medical school and health professional school is so expensive, they can come work for the Indian Health Service and get their loans paid in addition to being paid a salary.
[Lindberg:]
That's great.
[Robideaux:]
Yes, it's a very attractive thing now since students have to take out so many loans, and, of course, our scholarship program we look at a way to build leadership in our system.
