Health is not the top priority when people are struggling economically

[Nakagawa:]
I came and joined the University of Hawaii almost about two years ago I came from San Francisco, and when I started working as a neurointensivist at the Queens Medical Center from day one, I noticed a big difference compared to San Francisco, so I saw a lot of hemorrhagic stroke patients at a very young age, especially in their 30s and 40s, which was like unbelievable, so the age range that I'm used to seeing the hemorrhagic stroke patients who are in their 70s, 80s, maybe in the 60s, but not in their 30s and 40s. And so I saw the disparities on day one, and that's when I got my interest into looking into why this was happening.
