Traditional healing can involve a surrogate for the individual who actually needs healing


[Henderson:]
It’s also the case that the patient may not be the one who was intended to be the recipient of the healing, or at least if we define the patient in terms of the person who was there in front of the healer. It may be that that person in front of the healer is a surrogate for who really needs to be healed, and that’s another aspect of many traditional modalities is that that just may be the most accessible, the most open-minded person through which the healer can attempt to work within the broader context of the family.
